Air Fryer Garlic Knots Recipe
Garlic knots are amazing make-ahead appetizers for work parties, family get-togethers, and Sunday dinners. Pair them with spaghetti, lasagna, or a marinara dipping sauce.
Spice up your normal pizza night with golden brown homemade garlic knots. Ditch the plain dinner rolls and garlic breadsticks, and enjoy these air fryer garlic rolls.

Air Fryer Garlic Knot Ingredients
This delicious recipe is made with just 6 ingredients:
Crescent roll dough: to keep things quick and easy for this air fryer garlic knot recipe I used the Pillsbury brand. I like using the crescent roll dough or the store-bought pizza dough (homemade pizza dough is chef’s kiss).
Unsalted butter: I use unsalted butter for the base of the garlic butter sauce because using salted butter with added salt and parmesan cheese would end up being way too salty.
Fresh garlic: adding finely minced garlic cloves to the butter topping adds in a nuttiness and a little bit of sweetness to the mux.
Parsley: fresh parsley has a clean and peppery taste, which makes it the perfect topping for these garlic knots. Plus, garnishing something brown with something green makes it pretty!
Kosher salt: adding in a pinch of kosher salt to your butter mixture enhances the flavors of your garlic knots.
Parmesan cheese: I like to use a parmesan cheese wedge and grate my own cheese on top of my garlic knots.
I don’t recommend using shredded parmesan cheese for this recipe, as it will not melt properly and will overtake the flavor of the garlic knot.
Tip: take these up a notch with some roasted garlic.
How to Make Air Fryer Garlic Knots from Pizza Dough
- Prepare the dough. Unroll the crescent rolls dough sheet over a cutting board and cut it into 1-inch strips.
- Knot the dough. Make knots with each dough strip and place them over a baking sheet.
- Brush dough with garlic butter. Mix the melted butter with garlic, parsley, and salt in a small bowl. Brush the knots with the delicious garlic butter mixture using a pastry brush.
- Air fry garlic knots. Place the knots on the air fryer basket, leaving a 1-inch space between knots. Set the air fryer on “Bake” mode to 300º F for 5 minutes.
- Serve. Remove the garlic knots from the air fryer and serve warm (they’re still good at room temperature, though). Add finely grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley on top.
If you have any leftover garlic knots, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days.
What tools do I need to make Air Fryer Parmesan Garlic Knots?
Medium Knife/Pizza Cutter: This pizza cutter is the best and cuts right through any dough. I love how this one rocks back and forth instead of rolling; that way you get perfectly straight and even slices.
Baking Sheet: In this recipe, I use the baking sheet to place the garlic knots on once they are tied. Because of its raised edges, using a baking sheet in this step helps catch any runoff when you’re brushing your garlic butter on.
Pastry Brush: I like to use silicone pastry brushes rather than natural pastry brushes when I make garlic knots. This is because the parsley butter absorbs into the natural bristles, making it hard to get not only the butter but also any seasonings or herbs out.
Fine Grater: I prefer using this paremesan cheese grater because it has a catcher for all the cheese! Like a zester, a fine grater has very small holes that create a superfine grate. This allows the parmesan cheese to almost become light and powder-like.
Air Fryer: The ninja foodi is my favorite air fryer to use for this recipe because of its size. It is able to bake many garlic knots at the same time, all while cooking them evenly. It can also broil if you want your garlic knots to get extra crispy.
Kitchen Tongs: I use these kitchen tongs when placing the knots in the air fryer and then removing them while they are hot. I like to use the silicone-wrapped ones because they are a little softer and won’t cut into the freshly baked garlic knot.
What are garlic knots made of?
Garlic knots are usually made out of some kind of pastry dough or leftover pizza dough. The dough is then sliced into thin strips and tied into knots.
Then they are brushed with oil, butter, and Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and topped with Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
How do you tie a garlic knot?
Learning how to tie a garlic knot isn’t as complicated as it may seem. You will need to start with even sized and length ropes.
First, you will tie each rope into a loose knot; there should be an inch of pointy ends on each side. Take one of those ends and fold it under the knot. Then, take the other end and fold it over the other end of the knot, meeting in the middle.
What dipping sauce goes with air fryer garlic knots?
Traditionally, you will see garlic knots served with a homemade marinara sauce, pizza sauce, or some kind of red sauce.
However, you can also dip them into your favorite salad dressing, like blue cheese or ranch dressing. I like to pair mine with a pasta dish and then use the garlic knot to dip into any extra sauce.
Can I bake these in the oven instead?
Yes! Air Fryer Garlic Knots can also be cooked in the oven. First, you will need to preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
Then you will need to spray a baking sheet with a non-stick cooking spray or line it with aluminum foil.
To cook, you will toss them in the oven for about 10 to 20 minutes or until the top of your knots are slightly golden.
How to Reheat Garlic Knots
There are a few simple ways that you can reheat garlicky knots. The first is to pop them in the microwave oven for about 15-20 seconds or until they’re soft.
I highly recommend wrapping them in a damp paper towel before microwaving them, so they don’t dry out.
You can also toss them into the oven at 350 degrees for about 3-5 minutes. This will get some of the crisp back that microwaving won’t be able to do. airtight container
What goes with Garlic Knots?
There are many things that you can pair with garlic knots, but the most common dishes are pasta dishes, especially red sauce pasta dishes.
You can also pair garlic knots with tomato soup or a small side salad. Try adding a side of garlic knots to Creamy Tomato Ricotta Pesto Pasta, Caprese Pasta, or Spinach Lasagna Rolls.
