Ingredients You Will Need

Labeled ingredients for air fryer steak fajitas.
  • Steak: I used a New York strip for this recipe, but flank steak and skirt steak are great options too.
  • Bell peppers: I love red peppers but including other colored peppers is a fun way to mix things up!
  • Seasonings: These steak fajitas are packed with bold flavor thanks to garlic salt and fajita seasoning.

Substitutions/Additions

  • If you can’t find fajita seasoning, you can easily make it yourself by combining chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika. You can also add some onion powder, black pepper, or oregano.
  • Combine two parts salt and 1 part garlic powder if you don’t have garlic salt.
  • Fresh lime juice will give you the best flavor, but if you’ve got a lemon to use up, that works ok too!
  • Feel free to use a yellow onion instead of red onion if you prefer.

Recipe FAQs

What’s the best way to serve fajitas?

I like to serve steak fajitas as a centerpiece with lots of options for topping like refried beans, sour cream, guacamole (this authentic guacamole recipe is the best), shredded cheese, and salsa or pico. Set out some warm tortillas or even tortilla chips as well!

Do you have to marinate fajitas?

No, you can cook both the steak and veggies right after tossing them in the oil and seasonings if you like. But if you want a deeper and more intense flavor, let them marinate for about an hour in the fridge.

When is steak fully cooked?

Check for an internal temperature of 145 degrees for steak. Because you’re cutting it into strips, it should cook pretty quickly!

How to store leftover air fryer steak fajitas?

If you have leftovers, let them cool, then transfer them to an airtight container or sealable plastic bag. They’ll be good for about 3 days in the fridge, or you can freeze them for about a month.

How to reheat leftover steak fajitas?

Pop them back in the air fryer and cook at 350 until they’re properly heated through. If your leftovers are frozen, let them thaw first in the fridge overnight.

Equipment

  • Ninja Air Fryer
  • GoWise Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 pound steak I used NY Strip, cut into 1.5-2 inch strips
  • 1 red bell pepper cut into strips
  • ½ red onion sliced
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fajita seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons fresh cilantro chopped
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
  • Add the steak strips, 1/2 tbsp of olive oil, half the fajita seasoning, and half the lime juice to a mixing bowl. In another bowl, add the red pepper, red onion, remaining lime juice, olive oil, and fajita seasoning. Toss until well combined. Optional: marinate in the fridge for one hour.
  • Place the steak, peppers, and onions in the air fryer basket and cook for 8-10 minutes, tossing halfway through. Cook until the steak is cooked to your liking and the veggies are tender and charred around the edges. I like to cook the steak on one side and veggies on the other just in case one happens to cook faster than the other, it’s easier to remove that way.
  • Serve with a squeeze of lime and chopped cilantro over top.
