I have finally come up with an air fryer apple crisp recipe that matches the way Grandma makes it.
This mini apple crisp is easy to make and you only need a handful of ingredients that you can already find around your kitchen.

What do I need to make Air Fryer Apple Crisp?
Gala apples: for this recipe, I like to use two medium sized gala apples. If you are unable to find gala, I would recommend using honeycrisp.
Butter: you will need unsalted butter for both the apple filling and the crispy oats topping.
Make sure to use unsalted or it may make your recipe too salty. If you only have salted butter, that’s ok, just omit the salt that is added in.
Brown sugar: you will need brown sugar for the apple filling. I recommend using light brown sugar for your air fryer apple crisp instead of dark brown sugar.
Dark brown sugar has too much molasses and can change the texture of your filling.
Spices: ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt add a warm and comforting flavor to this delicious dessert.
Rolled oats: this is what our crispy topping is made of! Make sure you’re using plain rolled oats, unless you want to change the flavor of the topping..
Maple syrup: I use syrup instead of sugar for my apple crisp topping. The stickiness helps bind everything together.
Vanilla extract: I mix in some vanilla extract to the air fryer topping because it pairs well with the cinnamon for a delicious spicy and vanilla taste, while bringing out the other flavors in this dish.
Pecans: I like to add chopped pecans in my crumble topping for an additional crunch.
You can also use walnuts or omit the pecans in general if you’re not the biggest fan of adding nuts into dessert recipes.
How do I make Air Fryer Apple Crisp?
These mini apple crisps are made into individual servings and are perfect for serving guests!
1. Preheat the air fryer to 350° F.
2. Mix apples and butter. Add the chopped apples into a medium bowl and pour in the melted butter. Mix carefully with a flexible spatula.
3. Season the apples. Add the brown sugar to the bowl with the apples and mix. Then add the ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, and salt over the apples with a strainer to avoid any lumps.
Mix carefully until well combined. Divide the apple mixture into four ramekins and set aside.
4. Make the oat topping. Combine the rolled oats with the melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a large bowl.
Add the ground cinnamon using a strainer to avoid any lumps and mix well. Add the chopped pecans to the mixture and mix until well combined.
5. Cover with foil. Add the oat mixture over the apple mixture in each ramekin. Then cover each ramekin tightly with foil.
6. Air fry the apple crisp. Place the ramekins inside the air fryer basket and bake for 5 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for 5 more minutes.
7. Cool before serving. Remove the ramekins from the air fryer and place them over a cooling rack for at least 10 minutes before serving.
What kind of dishes can I use in my air fryer?
You can use many different dishes in your air fryer. Any ovenproof dish can be used in your air fryer, whether it is glass, metal, or ceramic.
You can also use silicone molds to make cupcakes or muffins. Almost anything you put in your oven can be put in your air fryer.
How do you keep apple crisp topping crisp?
If your apple crisp topping is a little soggy, you can always put the mixture in the fridge for a few minutes before putting in on your apples.
You don’t need to keep it in the fridge overnight, just a few minutes or so until it is colder than room temperature.
Why is my apple crisp watery?
One reason why your apple crisp is a little watery is that you’re cooking raw fruit. Raw fruit has water in it, which comes out while baking.
For this recipe, I like to use Gala apples because they’re crisp. If you use a sweeter and softer apple, they will be more watery.
What apples should I use for apple crisp?
I use Gala apples for this recipe, but you can use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp as a substitute. Any of these apples are great options but keep in mind if you use Granny Smith, your apple crisp will be a little more tangy or sour.
Just make sure that you don’t use an apple that is too sweet because sweet apples are softer and may become mushy.
What is the difference between apple crisp and apple crumble?
An apple crisp is a fruit dessert that is baked with a layer of topping that consists of oats and nuts. An apple crumble usually has a topping that is sugar based and has butter and flour in it.
What do I serve with Air Fryer Apple Crisp?
My favorite thing to serve with my apple crisp is a scoop of vanilla ice cream. However, you can use any flavor you like.
I think chocolate would be good to use too. You can also add other toppings like whipped cream or even caramel sauce for a different twist.

We’ve been wondering how else to take advantage of our air fryer. I’m bookmarking this page not just for this recipe, but your whole site. But I may try an apple crumble instead of a crisp. Would it still come out you think?
Yes, I think it would. Although I have not tried yet, but please let me know!
